This is the perfect fall recipe for apple season! Lots of nutrition and even an extra immune boost for the changing seasons if you add some change of season soup mix to it.

Hot Apple Cider Recipe

Servings: 8-10

Prep time: 15-20 minutes, Cook time: 1-2 hours

Ingredients:

  • 10 apples quartered
  • 1 whole nutmeg (smashed open/loosely ground)
  • 1-2 tsp cloves
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 inch fresh ginger root (chopped)
  • 2 oranges quartered
  • 1-2 tsp change of season soup blend (optional for extra immune boost)
  • Maple syrup or elderberry (sweeten to taste)
  • Enough water to cover above ingredients (about 6-8 cups)
  • Orange or lemon for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a a stock pot
  2. Bring to a boil
  3. Simmer on low heat for 1-2 hours until apples are very mushy
  4. Mash apples in the pot after removing from heat source
  5. Strain liquid into separate pot using cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
  6. Remaining pulp can be composted or made into applesauce, apple muffins, or apple cake
