It’s almost summer and I decided I wanted to start waking up with the sun. Typically, I’m not a morning person so this will definitely be a challenge for me. It was made even more challenging when my first day waking up at 6am was to one of the rainiest, gloomiest days ever! I’m proud to say I stuck to plan, woke up at 6am and made my own sunshine with this bright yellow, delicious, healthy latte. The early morning was so worth it as I quietly sipped the golden deliciousness as I watched the rain.
The health benefits?
There are so many benefits of both dandelion and turmeric. If you know me you’ve probably heard me talk a lot about both of them and you can even check out my posts on the benefits of dandelion and golden milk. As a quick summary though, what I really love about this latte aside from it’s deliciousness and colour are the antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and liver and kidney supportive properties.
Okay, without further adieu…here’s the recipe! Enjoy!
Dandelion Turmeric Latte
Prep time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- Dandelion roots and leaves (I used about 4 dandelions that I uprooted from my backyard)
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (more or less depending on desired sweetness)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
- Add dandelions and water to pot.
- Boil for 20-30 minutes.
- While dandelions are boiling, add milk, turmeric, cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla to second pot.
- Heat milk on medium/low heat until it starts to boil (about 10 minutes).
- Strain dandelion water (I used a fine mesh strainer) and discard dandelions. I like to thank them for the nutrients before composting them 🙂
- Whisk turmeric mixture if you prefer milk frothed.
- Combine dandelion and turmeric mixtures and enjoy!
